I found the work load easier to manage while working in a group, however I found it harder to organise and felt like I had little control having to trust that other aspects that were out of my hands would be completed. I enjoyed working with new people who i had not interacted much with on the course previously.
Thinking about the “how to be curious” lecture I feel that we could have conducted more primary research for example surveys, questionnaires, or asking the general public. I think that personal experience is important but unfortunately due to the winter weather there has not been much opportunity to eat outside. I also collected a wide variety of interesting information personally I seemed to take it more down the cooking outdoors aspect of eating outdoors, and a outside way of living
I have learnt that the best research comes from a wide variety of sources and angles and personally experiencing something is better than reading another’s experience . however i feel that other people’s opinions are also valuable to give a wider perspective.
I think that my groups most interesting discovery was the difference between eating outside for necessity and in contrast for pleasure also think that the history is interesting and how we have embraced and adapted how other culture eat outside
Form the other presentations i found the lunch boxes the dabbawalla very interesting because of the idea and i also like the rugged style made solely for purpose and function not decorative
In contrast I also like the Russian teapot and the cups which are very elaborately decorated while still functional I like the contrast between the two. the shape of the tea pot is very elaborate. the cup is made from glass so you can tell how strong your tea is but the glass will get hot so they use the metal holder to correct that but also shows a contrast between the materials that i find appealing
the contrast between the dabbawalla and the russian tea pot are similar to my groups research in the way that one is used for necessity and the other for luxury.
I enjoyed learning about the different customs in different countries and the rules and different tools they use and the reasons for that. The afternoon teas group decorative table arrangement and the sharing aspect is something that I think would be interesting to pursue.
For the starting point of my “food for thought” personal project I want to start by looking at table wares that could be functional or decorative and both I could also put this into the context of eating inside or outside. I also want to look at table wares from a sharing aspect that all members can interact with.
